Young Adult Independence Support

Encouraging young adults to build confidence and everyday skills, from managing routines and household tasks to preparing simple meals and getting involved in community life.

How we can help

  • Building daily routines, from getting up on time to keeping on top of appointments
  • Keeping a home clean, tidy and organised
  • Planning, shopping for and preparing simple meals
  • Managing letters, bills and everyday paperwork
  • Getting involved in community life, from local groups to new interests
  • Growing the confidence to do more for yourself, step by step

Learning by doing

We work alongside young people on real, everyday tasks, so new skills stick.

Goals are agreed together and broken into small, realistic steps, so progress feels achievable and worth celebrating.

What support looks like

1

Getting to know you

We talk about what’s going well, what feels difficult and what you’d like to be able to do.

2

Setting goals together

We agree a few clear goals and the small steps that will get you there.

3

Practising and growing

We practise together, celebrate progress and step back as your confidence grows.

Who it’s for

Our independence support is for young adults aged 18 to 25 who would like to build confidence and everyday skills, whether they’re living in a home of their own, moving into one soon or getting ready for the future.

Young people can get in touch themselves, or a parent, carer, family member or professional can contact us on their behalf. We’ll always make sure the young person is happy to take part.

Questions about this service

Who can refer a young person?

Anyone can get in touch, including the young person, a parent or carer, a family member or a professional such as a social worker or support worker.

Does the young person need to live alone?

No. We support young adults whether they live alone, with family, in shared or supported accommodation, or are preparing to move.

How often will we meet?

That depends on what the young person needs. We agree it together at the start and adjust it as things change.
